The Supervisor, Public Works, is responsible for the day to day organization, planning, and scheduling of the UEL’s Public Works program and staff. This includes the construction, installation, service, maintenance and repair of streets, curbs, sidewalks and cycle paths, signs; the water distribution system, including, water mains, fire hydrants, valves, meters, and services; for storm and sanitary sewage systems; snow removal and for solid waste collection. The Supervisor is directly responsible for daily work plans for the municipal and environmental schedules as well as coordination with other work groups.
The Supervisor plays a key role with the Works Superintendent/Deputy Manager in long-term planning, coordinating, and scheduling of works projects and annual and long-term plans. The position establishes scope of work, prepares estimates and specifications, and recommends what projects and activities can be handled in-house and what needs to be contracted out. The position is directly responsible for managing smaller works contracts.

Provisos:
- This position is required to be available for after hour’s on-call duty and weekend and statutory holiday stand-by duty. (Successful applicant must be within 30 minutes travel time to job site).
- Valid BC Class 3 driver's licence, with air brake certification-operating endorsement.
To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following:

Technical Diploma in Civil and Structural or Building Technology or related discipline (2 years).

Must be qualified to complete Water Distribution Level 2 designation within 6 months of commencement of position.

Additional training in Public Works Inspection, Asphalt Technology, Confined Space entry procedures, excavation and shoring preferred.

Experience as the supervisor of a public works crew with good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of public works infrastructure such as roads, sewers, water lines, refuse collection systems, etc.

Experience in the operation and maintenance of single rear axle gravel trucks and tractors equipped with backhoe attachments. (Prefer completion of recognized training program in the operation of single and tandem trucks and rubber-tired loader or backhoe in addition to experience.)

Experience independently managing projects.

Experience in the identification, development and delivery of infrastructure projects.

Contract management experience.
