     Key Responsibilities include:
 
  • Leads, directs and manages a team of staff to evolve and execute Sturgeon County’s Economic Development Strategy.

 

  • Guides development of business plans and ensures Department activities, services and outcomes align with Council's Vision, Corporate Strategic Plan, Municipal Development Plan, 3 Year Corporate Business Plan and Department mandate, ensuring that processes, resources and systems are in place to complete the planned activities.

 

  • Builds networks across the region and beyond that can be leveraged to help achieve outcomes, including participating on a variety of regional economic development committees.

 

  • Acts as the primary liaison between Sturgeon County and the Alberta Industrial Heartland Association.

 

  • Prepares complex confidential and public correspondence, reports and briefings, delivers presentations and provides professional advice related to economic development to the General Manager, County Commissioner (CAO), Senior Leadership Team, County Council, the public and other stakeholders.

 

  • Evaluates the implications of various commercial, industrial and other development proposals in the context of the County’s economic development strategies, plans and policies. Works with staff across departments to remove or address roadblocks to development opportunities.

 

  • Facilitates the development and implementation of strategic projects that support growth in the agriculture sector.
 
Your competencies include the ability to manage diverse business development activities across a range of industries and sectors require strong problem solving and innovative thinking. Excellent organizational and time management skills in order to work under the pressure of time limitations and constraints. You will possess an ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, strong verbal and writing skills, as well as strong inter-personal skills.
 
     Job Qualifications:
 
  • Post-Secondary degree in economics, commerce, public administration or a related field

 

  • 5+ years’ experience in an economic development role

 

  • A strong understanding of economic conditions and trends with the Capital Region

 

  • Knowledge of the energy sector, specifically petrochemical processing, and oil and gas would be considered a strong asset
