ASSESSMENT/TAXATION CLERK
 
Mackenzie County is currently accepting applications for the position of Assessment/Taxation Clerk. This position will be located in Fort Vermilion and is a permanent full-time position with a 36.25 hour work week (7.25 hours per day) Monday to Friday. This position will report to the Director of Finance and Finance Controller.
 
Reporting to the Director of Finance & Finance Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
 
  • Customer service and liaison with property assessor, lawyers and other agents;
  • Maintaining taxation & assessment database and related filing systems;
  • Billing for and receiving tax payments;
  • Maintaining and balance taxation & assessment subledger;
  • Adhering to legislative requirements as set out in the Municipal Government Act;
  • Processing changes in property ownership in a timely manner;
  • Processing tax notices in accordance with the annual Tax Rate Bylaw;
  • Processing of tax and assessment certificates;
  • Processing of preauthorized direct payments.
 
Requirements for this position are: 
 
  • Completion of Grade 12 Diploma.
  • Office or Business Administrative Certificate would be an asset.
  • Accounting and/or taxation administration courses would be a definite asset.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a clerk/bookkeeping position.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to identify and investigate problems, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations and policies.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment and tact in interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of Great Plains Dynamics Accounting Program would be an asset.
  • Evidence of successfully passing a police Criminal Record Check.
 
Salary: $51,913/annum - $73,004/annum. Mackenzie County offers a comprehensive benefit package.
