Lethbridge County is seeking a Water and Wastewater Operator to join our team. We offer a full benefit package and enrollment in the LAPP pension plan after completion of the probationary period.

If Certified Level I- Class 5 – CUPE 2800 Contract, $28.76 for the first 6 months, then $30.53 (2017 rates listed)
 
 
 
If Certified Level II -Class 7 – CUPE 2800 Contract, $31.12 for the first 6 months, then $32.87 (2017 rates listed)
 
 
Reports To:
Supervisor of Utility Services and Utilities Foreman III
 
Qualifications:
  1. Preference will be given to a candidate with level I or II certification in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment.
  2. Consideration will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in Water and Wastewater from an accredited institution or equivalent experience and training may be considered.
  3. Candidate should have experience in operating water and wastewater facilities, and construction, installation, and repair of water and wastewater mains and service connections.
  4. Hold a valid Class 3 Drivers License with air brake endorsement is preferred. A copy of driver’s license abstract is mandatory yearly as per legislation.
  5. Education and Training is ongoing 3.6 CEU’s are the minimum requirement every three years to keep certificates valid.
  6. Training Requirements: WHIMIS,TDG training, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Trenching Safety, First Aid and Defensive Driving as well as Flagging Safety, Traffic Control and OHS legislation.
  7. Candidate must be physically fit, accountable to work independently and be a self-starter.
 
Duties:
  1. Assist in the operations, monitoring and recording of all Water and Wastewater systems under Lethbridge County control.
  2. Assist with the day to day operations of the Lethbridge Regional Waste Management Services Commission. (4 transfer stations and burn pit).
  3. Movement of the fifth wheel recycling trailers when necessary. CUPE External Job Posting Utilities - Water and Wastewater Operator
  4. Respond to utility concerns and water quality complaints from the public in a safe, cordial and respectful manner.
  5. Assist with buried utility locates as requested through the Alberta One Call System.
  6. Various other duties or assignments as required and within scope of Utility Services.

Working Conditions:
  1. This position will be based out of the Picture Butte Shop. Hours will vary between 8-9 hours seasonally, as per the Collective agreement.
  2. Position is subject to overtime in order to complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
  3. This position is required to be on call 1 week every month.
  4. Dealing with the public is inevitable and must be done with professionalism and patience.
