Job Summary:
The Engineering Services department is offering an excellent career opportunity to apply your engineering expertise in the municipal infrastructure field. The Development Engineering Supervisor will have the challenge of supporting a group of staff applying best practices in infrastructure design and construction to support growth of a sustainable community. This position leads, acts as a liaison, negotiates and provides professional technical advice when it comes to the review, approval, and oversight of new development.
 
Responsibilities Include:
  • Supervise staff, including recruitment, selection and hiring, scheduling, assigning work, determining training and development needs, coaching and mentoring and managing performance
  • Undertaking and coordinating the review and approval of engineering designs and reports for new development, as well as providing technical expertise and support to the City
  • Act as liaison between the City and its partners (Development Community, Engineering consultants, Shallow Utilities Groups, Government Agencies, and other external agencies) for new development
  • Negotiate and recommend City policies and standard guidelines for design and construction
  • Negotiate servicing agreements with landowners/developers and then administer the terms and conditions
  • Create an environment for the effective and efficient performance, with a focus on customer service
 
Qualifications:
  • Eight years of experience in the municipal engineering field
  • Post-secondary education in a professional discipline pertinent to the job function, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Professional Engineering (P. Eng) through APEGA or alternatively a Professional Technologist (P. Tech) through ASET
  • Experience applying and interpreting related legislation and technical documents, including the TAC Geometric Design Guide
  • Demonstrated knowledge in statistical and other analysis relating to transportation matters
  • Proficient in the use of computers in a Windows operating system
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at all levels of the organization, including the political level, preparing reports, presentations, etc.
  • Ability to be an active representative of the City at meetings with elected officials, the public, ratepayers and business associations, special interest groups, stakeholders, etc.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workloads
  • Demonstrated supervision, management and leadership experience and experience in planning and directing the work of subordinates
  • Demonstrated ability to handle day-to-day personnel and labour relations issues
  • A valid Province of Alberta driver’s license and daily access to a reliable vehicle
