CITY MANAGER
TAKE A PROGRESSIVE APPROACH TO CITY TRANSFORMATION
In the midst of its transformation from a suburban municipality into a world class city, Vaughan is seeking a leader who will approach this strategic and change management role as a facilitator, collaborator and partnership builder.
One of Southern Ontario’s fastest growing centres, with a mix of urban and rural areas, Vaughan is a sought after place to live and work. Considered one of Canada’s most family-friendly communities, the City of Vaughan has a dynamic and diverse population of over 320,000. With a high performance economy, a growing tourism industry and an enviable portfolio of recreational and cultural venues, the municipality offers the best of lifestyle and career possibilities. Its vision of building “a city of choice” promotes diversity, innovation and opportunity for all citizens through public engagement. The City of Vaughan’s Service Excellence Strategy Map has three main Strategic Initiatives in the areas of Citizen Experience, Operational Performance and Staff Engagement. Vaughan is committed to safe residential neighbourhoods, great schools, diverse recreational opportunities and abundant green space. A new hospital, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and a new subway line are all planned for the immediate future.
As City Manager, you have demonstrated the knowledge and ability to evolve an organization’s culture and operational practices. With a 2016 budget of $265 million and workforce of over 2000 staff, you will support the effective and efficient delivery of strategy and services. Working with the Mayor, Council and your senior team, you will add energy and direction to the City’s infrastructure and business development plans. Your commitment to transparency and dialogue will contribute to enhancing communication and citizen and staff engagement. You will collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure that Vaughan’s vision is inclusive and progressive. You will also have strong strategic financial planning and budgeting skills to further enhance an organization that is committed to fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth.
With a minimum of 15 years of senior leadership experience, the ideal candidate has worked in a municipality or other similarly complex and diverse organization; experience managing within a unionized environment is essential. Your reputation for high ethical standards and commitment to service excellence sets you apart. Be a change agent to continue to build an organizational culture that is passionate about citizen experience, operational performance, and staff engagement.
