The Town of Vulcan is conveniently located 120 km southeast of Calgary and 100 km northwest of Lethbridge on Highway 23.  Vulcan is a progressive town of approximately 2000 peoples. The Town is a service centre for the County of Vulcan, located just southeast of Calgary and extends south to the County of Lethbridge.  It covers an approximate area of 545,000 hectares and encompasses the Town of Vulcan, 5 villages and 8 hamlets.  The population of the County (including the Town and Villages) is approximately 6,600 people.

The Town is provincially, nationally and internationally known for its “STAR TREK” theme and attracts 15,000 plus visitors every year.

Under the supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Tourism Coordinator plans, directs and controls the tourism activities/programs for the Town of Vulcan and Vulcan County.

The successful candidate will:

• Be able to implement thetourism activities/programs, identified in collaboration with the Tourism and Community Development Committee;
• Be able to manage the daily operation of the Tourism “Trek” Centre and gift shop;
• Be able to work with different local groups in the organization of special events;
• Be able to identify and promote improvements to and expansion of existing Tourism programs/activities;

The successful candidate will have:

• Post-secondary education in a related discipline and direct experience in a Tourism service management position;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Excellent organizational and time management skills;
• Ability to work well under pressure and make responsible decisions quickly;
• A demonstrated ability to collaborate with partners in achieving past successes;
• Ability to deal effectively with all forms of media.

(Exceptional Personal skills would compensate for lack of training and experience)
