The Town of Nanton is located approximately 45 minutes south of Calgary, and is predominantly an agricultural area. It’s beautiful landscape and small town atmosphere is a welcoming location for anyone to enjoy. The Town of Nanton is seeking a motivated person for the position of Director of Public Services as a permanent full time employee.
Under the general direction of the CAO, the Director of Public Services will be responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the Public Services Department, including roads, water, wastewater, storm water, solid waste and recycling, parks, recreation facilities, and facility and fleet management and maintenance. Administers & develops contracts; supervises Manager of Public Works and Manager of Parks & Recreation, and prepares and implements annual budgets. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Some required skills and abilities should include the following:

Oversee all functions of the Department, including planning, scheduling, reporting, human resource management, training, safety, environmental reporting and compliance and customer service.

Comply with all applicable policies, rules and regulations.

Meet with the public and handle routine inquiries.

Oversee purchasing for the department.

Work closely with and oversee Engineers, contractors, developers and suppliers providing or performing services for the town.

Oversee repair and maintenance of water distribution system, sanitary sewer system, storm drainage system, streets, town owned and operated buildings

Manage and oversee efficient and cost effective operations of all vehicles, machinery, equipment and facilities.

Ensure operation of water and wastewater treatment systems as required by Alberta Environment, including compliance and reporting.

Participates as an integral member of the Senior Management Team

Preparation of the annual Operating and Capital budgets, including monitoring expenditures, etc.

Approve the payment of contracts, progress payments and final payments and of all Public Works invoices

Recruit, select, train and coach employees
Candidates qualifications must include:
-
A minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience in progressively more responsible positions within a municipal setting is required.

Level 1 in Water Treatment and Distribution and Wastewater Treatment and Collection

Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License

The knowledge required to adequately perform the duties of this position will have been gained through completion of a Certificate in Engineering, or considerable course work in civil engineering. CET an asset.

Additional training in human resource management, facility management, and/or general administration would be an asset
