Environmental Resources Planner
 
Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for an Environmental Resources Planner position. This position will be located in La Crete and is a full-time unionized position with a 36.25 hour work week (7.25 hours per day) Monday to Friday.
 
Reporting to the Deputy CAO, the successful applicant will be responsible for:
  • Developing short and long term plans for land use in urban and rural areas;
  • Conducting environmental impact assessments and will assist other internal departments with environmental and public lands approvals;
  • Creating design and maps using ArcView and AutoCad;
  • Meeting with various groups, including other planners, public stakeholders, industrial proponents, developers, municipal councils, special interest groups and the general public;
  • Reviewing proposals regarding development and amendments to bylaws, as well as research and review legislations and policies from other jurisdictions;
  • Researching and writing briefing and reports on complex interjurisdictional issues (such as the Species at Risk legislations) and the implications of these issues to the local region;
 
Requirements for this position are:
  • Registered Professional Planner with Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) and/or the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP);
  • Degree in Environmental Planning, Engineering or other relevant field;
  • Experience in a municipal planning environment is an asset;
  • Familiarity with current provincial and federal legislation relating to environmental objectives (eg. Species at Risk Act, Alberta’s Land Use Framework, Alberta’s Wetland Policy, etc.);
  • Working knowledge of GIS systems (AutoCAD, Arc View) is an asset;
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally & in writing (in the English language) with the public and with municipal, provincial and federal agencies;
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public in carrying out the duties of administering the provision of the applicable bylaws and regulations;
  • Evidence of successfully passing a police Criminal Record Check.
 
Salary: $75,589/annum – $90,706/annum. Mackenzie County offers a comprehensive benefit package.
