Junior Project Engineer/Technologist
Engineering Services - Capital Planning & Construction
 
Job Summary:

The Engineering Services department is offering an excellent career opportunity to apply your engineering expertise in construction management. The Project Engineer / Technologist will be primarily administering, coordinating and undertaking the review and approval of designs and implementation of municipal infrastructure related projects. You will also be supervising aspects of work done by contractors and consultants, AutoCAD drafting and design. 

 
Responsibilities include:
  • Project sponsorship and/or project management of capital projects including coordinating with other City departments and outside agencies
  • Coordinate review of projects to optimize design and innovation
  • Monitor project expenditures, overall budget and prepare reports
  • Design review for bridges, roads, sidewalks, storm sewers and other related infrastructure
  • Prepare terms of reference for Requests for Proposals, Tender documents and Requests for Quotations
  • Drafting using AutoCAD for designing grade profiles, quantity take-offs and internal department projects
  • Investigate and prepare responses to customer service requests relating to various Capital planning and construction projects
 
Qualifications:
Education
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and eligible for registration with APEGA, or
  • Related technical diploma in Civil Engineering and eligible for registration with ASET
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 
  • 0-3 years of directly related work experience
  • Proficiency with computers including knowledge and use of AutoCAD
  • Knowledge in project management and administration, preparation of specifications and contract documents would be an asset
  • Knowledge of construction practices and procedures
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Some experience dealing with consultants, contractors, and vendors would be an asset
  • A high level of creativity to develop alternative and innovative solutions to problems
  • A confident, self-motivated individual who can function with minimal direct supervision
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Access to a reliable vehicle for travel between sites
